Serious Illness

If you are suffering from a serious illness the only place for medical advice is your GP or your consultant. Many doctors will be fully aware of psychotherapeutic treatments that may help those suffering from serious or terminal illness so ask them the explain them to you.

There are two areas that they may help

1. The use of therapies such as clinical hypnosis, counselling and visualizations can make a patient feel a more positive about their treatment and if necessary come to terms with the possible outcomes. These techniques have been used for many years and work alongside your medical treatment.

2. There are newer areas that are being studied which are thought to help in a different way. Psychoneuroimmuniology involves using psychotherapeutic techniques to raise the body's natural ability to fight disease. Some talk about boosting your immune system but that is not an accurate description but your medical consultant will explain what information has been found so far. In addition to this you can find more information via the Internet.

If you are considering supporting your treatment in this way please contact us and we will send you details of the treatments available which you can then discuss with your consultant.
