Sexual Problems
If we are truthful most of us can suffer from sexual problems at some stage in our lives. These problems can be caused by a variety of things which may include negative experiences of sex when young, medical reasons, religious influences, feelings of guilt, poor knowledge of sexual technique, child abuse, rape and many other things.
Common problems for women may include finding sex painful, the inability to achieve orgasm, lack of sexual desire, excessive sexual desire or feeling guilt about having sex.
Common problems for men may include inability to get or maintain an erection, premature ejaculation, lack of sexual desire or excessive sexual desire.
Other issues that can affect both men and women may include obsessions to piercing, pain, dangerous or inappropriate sexual acts or self harming.
Some of these conditions may have a medical cause so this needs to be eliminated first. Common causes may include past or current infections or disease, blood pressure problems, diabetes, reactions to medication or perhaps an injury.
If you feel the origin may be medical then you should seek advice from your GP or a clinic. If medical causes have been excluded it is likely that the causes are psychological and therapy may help.
Whatever the sexual issue is that is concerning you the first stage is to talk on the telephone in strictest confidence to one of our therapists. If you prefer you can email details of your problem (anonymously if you wish) and one of our therapists will give you some feedback or advice via email.
