Trauma
The Peel Clinic has worked a great deal with people suffering from traumatic experiences or thoughts. This includes persons who have been subject to domestic violence, child abuse, violence, car crashes, serious accidents, serious injuries, bereavement and other incidents causing trauma.
Dealing with trauma is a specialist area and it is important you only seek advice or treatment from those experienced in this area. Initially you should speak to your GP who may be able to refer you to a specialist under the NHS. If they are not or you have already tried that route without success there are a number therapies that may be helpful.
At the Peel Clinic we use a combination of EMDR Therapy which is thought to help desensitise blockages caused by traumatic experiences, clinical hypnosis (which may help you to re-look at the past experience in a safe way and change the way you deal with the memory) and Inner Child Therapy which help you get back in touch with your inner feelings.
Our Clinical Director has worked for many years in this field which has included serving on the professional advisory panel for a national charity proving support for adult survivors of child abuse. He has also for some years run Home Office approved psychology training courses for the police, Social Services, Probation Service and other official bodies working in the areas of child abuse and domestic violence. In his years working for the Metropolitan Police he also gained a practical insight to those suffering from trauma.
