Hypnotherapy

Since all the new scientific research Clinical Hypnosis (Hypnotherapy) has become a very sought after treatment for many conditions. It is very powerful and effective when administered by a properly trained and experienced practitioner. It is long established, natural, safe and there are no harmful side effects.

The unconscious mind often holds the solution to many medical and psychological problems, particularly where the origins may involve thoughts, feelings, stress and trauma (psychosomatic). Some estimate that as much as 80% of the common conditions that take us to the doctor have psychosomatic origins. Most agree that treating the root cause of a problem is far more effective and long-term than just treating the symptoms with drugs or surgery. Over the past 10 years more scientific studies than ever before have shown how Hypnotherapy works (see research section).

The benefits are long lasting and often permanent. Courses of treatment are usually much shorter than other therapies making the overall cost lower. As it is a non-drug or chemical based therapy it avoids unpleasant side effects or building any unwanted drug dependency. It is effective for all ages from 8 to 80 yrs old.

The process of being hypnotised is gentle and relaxing and, contrary to popular belief, you do not go to sleep. Primarily with the use of words the therapist gently guides you into a state that you go into naturally every day of your life. The hypnogogic and hypnopompic states are the states you go through just before you go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning. Children often go into the light trance state when they daydream.

When you relax into this rather pleasant state of deep relaxation you are not asleep. You can hear everything that is being said, and are aware of everything that takes place. At any stage you can open your eyes and finish the session if you so choose. You cannot be made to do anything that is against your belief system.

Most patients relax into the light trance state quite easily. For those who may be a little nervous or are very analytically minded it may take longer. A properly trained therapist will know many different methods of trance induction and will use ones appropriate to the personality and condition of the patient.
